Wavecom has announced the launch of its first wireless microprocessor approved for ATEX-approved GSM/GPRS communications.
The GSM/GPRS platform is designed for use with both gas meter and metering gateways on common software architectures.
The WMP120 provides ATEX certification in the current WMP100 wireless microprocessor, and is designed to operate as a smart modem, shared processor with a host CPU, or a standalone CPU natively carrying out customer application.
The device offers speed to the final certification of a product with the main component of the GSM/GPRS-enabled meter being already ATEX certified. As well as this, existing smart meter designs can be adapted without major changes, for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.
"We are confident that those of our customers which produce wireless-enabled equipment for hazardous environments will be eager to adopt the WMP120," said Philippe Guillemette, CTO & v-p marketing of Wavecom.
The device supports the Open AT real-time operating system with the full range of Open AT Plug-Ins including Internet, Security and GPS.
