Maxim's MAX4889B/MAX4889C ultra-high-speed, 1:2 or 2:1 PCI Express(R) (PCIe) passive switches are quad double-pole/double-throw (DPDT) switches. They are ideal for switching four half lanes of PCIe data between two destinations.
To maximize performance, four devices can be used to convert 16 PCIe lanes into two sets of 8 lanes for use with either SLI or CrossFire graphics cards. Maintaining a high level of signal integrity, these switches feature very-low on-capacitance and superior return loss.
The MAX4889B/MAX4889C are designed for PCIe 2.0 data switching: they offer low power consumption, support data rates greater than 5.0Gbps, and feature a flow-through pin configuration for optimized PCB layout.
The MAX4889C, due to its internal biasing resistors, also supports SAS I, SAS II, and SAS 6.0Gbps data rates. The MAX4889B/MAX4889C are well suited for extreme graphics applications in desktop and notebook PCs, as well as servers.
The devices operate from a single 3.3V supply, and are fully specified over the -40ºC to +85ºC extended temperature range. They are available in an industry-standard, 3.5mm x 9mm, 42-pin TQFN package. Prices start at $1.50 (1000-up, FOB USA).
