Ramtron has announced the FM25V05, a 512kbit, 2.0 to 3.6V, serial peripheral interface non-volatile FRAM.
In an 8pin SOIC package, the chip offers 1014 read/write cycles and is sold as an alternative to flash and EEPROM-like products where speed, durability, or power is an issue.
Compared with serial flash memory or serial EEPROM, the chip performs write operations at bus speed without write delays continuously up to 40Mbit/s.
Power consumption is 3mA while running at a 40MHz SPI clock rate, 90µA during standby, and 5[micro]A in sleep. Typical power is 38µA/MHz.
A read-only device ID is provided and the device can be ordered with a unique serial number, as well as a system reset option. Operating temperature range is -40 to +85ºC.
Applications are foreseen in industrial control, metering, medical, automotive, the military, gaming, and computing.
