ON Semiconductor is offering a device that integrates the performance and functions of an overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit, a 30 volt (V) P-channel power mosfet, a low VCE(sat) transistor and a low Rds(on) power mosfet into a space-saving 3.0 mm x 4.0 mm x 0.9 mm package.
The NUS6189 is designed to protect sensitive electronic circuitry from overvoltage transients and power supply faults. It is optimized for applications that use an external ac-dc adapter or car accessory charger such as mobile phones, PMPs and mobile internet devices.
By integrating the four separate device functions commonly needed for protection within portable devices into a single IC, the NUS6189 reduces the PCB space required by up to 40%. In addition, the device’s integrated design delivers low power dissipation, reducing heat and improving battery life.
The device is designed to handle large inrush peak currents and quickly disconnects the input supply from the load during faults, and has an overvoltage turn-off time of less than 1.0 micro seconds (µs).
The NUS6189 is part of the portfolio targeted at the four primary subsystems typically found in portable applications. This device specifically addresses the challenging requirements within the Interconnect subsystem.
The NUS6189 is available in a low profile 3.0 mm x 4.0 mm x 0.9 mm QFN-22, lead-free package. It is priced at $0.55 USD per unit in 1,000 unit quantities.
