Switched mode power supplies (SMPS) can be 25% more efficient and up to a third smaller, following the introduction by MMG MagDev of ultra efficient amorphous powder chokes.
The AMS PowerPac range of advanced magnetic powder cores feature low core loss and good DC bias characteristics which are ideal for DC choke coils, and contribute to efficient switching in high frequency power supplies.
Cores can be smaller and lighter: up to 35% smaller than a sendust system and about 20% lighter than 50-50 Ni-Fe powder cores. They are also offer 25% greater efficiency than 50-50 Ni-Fe powder cores.
These benefits are the result of the performance of the core material, offering losses of less than 0.8W per cubic centimetre at 100kHz and 0.1 Tesla, high saturation flux density of 1.5T, and an DC bias characteristic of over 65% at 8000 A/m (100 Oe).
The cores are UL94V-0 compliant, and are offered in a range of industry standard sizes from 13.5mm to 57.2mm outside diameter.
