3M Touch Systems has introduced a surface capacitive touch system designed to meet the requirements of applications such as retail point-of-sale terminals using 5.7 to 12.1-inch LCDs.

The SCT system integrates a MicroTouch Sensor SCT3250 and the newly-released MicroTouch Controller CX.

According to the supplier, this USB-HID controller is smaller and requires up to 25% less power compared to typical 5-wire resistive designs.

"With superior surface durability and typically 11.5% higher optical transmission than traditional 5-wire and 7-wire resistive touch solutions, our new all-glass SCT system presents device manufacturers with a more robust and reliable," said Paolo Pedrazzoli, marketing operations manager, 3M Touch Systems.
