Microchip’s PIC18F87J90 8-bit direct LCD-drive microcontrollers are its first 8-bit MCUs to include real-time clock & calendar (RTCC) and charge time measurement unit (CTMU) peripherals, enabling capacitive touch-sensitive applications or precise time measurement.
The PIC18F87J90 offer 64- to 128Kbyte of flash and 4Kbyte of Ram, and they are pin-compatible with the firm’s PIC18F85J90 devices in the LCD-drive MCU family.
The on-board LCD module contains a software-controlled contrast controller, providing display boost or dimming functionality to compensate for environmental variations such as lighting or temperature.
There is also the firm's nanoWatt Technology for a low power profile, even allowing the display driver to continue operating during sleep mode. The RTCC also operates in sleep mode, ensuring real-time tracking isn't impeded by low-power operation.
With this peripheral set, engineers can quickly and easily add user interfaces features such as capacitive or inductive touch-sensing to their display applications.
