With an eye to its low supply current line switch IC range, Torex Semiconductor has introduced a 2nd generation device which is available in a USP-4 package, as well as in standard SOT-25 and SSOT-24 versions.
Many key features on the new XC8102 device have been improved upon. The second generation XC8102 series is designed to address a wider range of applications and so the company has increased I(out) to 400mA from 200mA, lowered the V(in) range to 1.2V minimum from 1.8V and lowered the on-resistance to 0.35Ω (V(in) of 2.9V) from 0.75Ω.
The range also includes a current limit and protection circuit so these are not required externally unlike discrete circuit solutions where mosfet and resistors are used. By connecting, for example, the XC8102’s V(in) pin to the output pin of a step-down DC-DC converter, such as the supplier’s own XC9235, the line switcher can be used to provide a number of accurate output rails.
