Freescale Semiconductor’s latest 8-bit microcontroller has an integrated LCD driver, commonplace in consumer MCUs but not so in lower-priced industrial devices with a higher degree of electromagnetic compatibility.
The S08LG range of MCUs is aimed at automotive and electric metering applications.
The 5V MCUs come with a range of flash memory sizes (up to 32kbyte) and package options scaling from 48 to 80 pins.
The on-chip LCD driver supports displays with up to 296 segments (8x37 or 4x41 LCD configurations).
“With the introduction of the S08LG family, Freescale is addressing customer demand for 5V LCD MCUs optimised for a wide range of industrial, home appliance and medical applications,” said Aiden Mitchell, director of industrial and multi-market MCUs at Freescale.
There will also be demonstration boards in mid 2009.
