Avago Technologies has announced a fifth generation of its InGaP power amplifiers for the UMTS band.

Dubbed the ACPM-73x2 series, quiescent current has been cut to 3mA to improve talk time.

Devices are 4x4mm. 0.9mm thick, 10pin surface mount modules incorporate 50ohm input and output matching networks, and are designed for bands 1, 2, 4, 5 and 8.

Three power modes are supported: bypass, mid-, and high-power.

"It is a stage bypass technology which enhances power added efficiency [PAE] at low and medium power ranges," said the firm.

"An active bypass feature has been added to these PAs to enhance PAE further at low output range which helps to extent talk time."
