STMicroelectronics has an audio headset IC which measures 1.5x1.7mm and can be used to replace a network of discrete components or two separate ICs, normally designed into the music player’s headset interface circuit.
The chip's ability to attenuate signals at frequencies from 900MHz to 1900MHz allows its use in handsets for mobile phones, as well as multi-band products, without the need for fine-tuning the frequency band of each design.
The chip provides filtering and protection and is effectively the combination of two existing ICs, the EMIF02-MIC03M6 and EMIF02-SPK02F2.
To reduce battery drain teh chip includes low-resistance earphone circuitry of 0.3ohm.
In addition to its filtering, the IC also provides required protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD) capable of damaging the handset’s internal components.
The EMIF04-EAR02M8 is available in a micro-QFN 8-lead package.
