ON Semiconductor has announced a stepper motor driver IC to interface two-phase steppers to 5V or 3.3V microcontroller hosts.
AMIS-30542 delivers 2.2A continuous (5.0A peak), and integrates smart motor control with voltage regulation and on-board current sensing.
On-board speed and load angle feedback allow the removal of end-of-line switches and hall sensors on applications ranging through surveillance cameras, robotics, printers, industrial automation equipment and textile machines.
Connection to the host is through an SPI interface and dedicated I/O pins, and the device includes a microcontroller reset and a watchdog.
Seven step modes can be configured, from full step to 32 micro-steps.
A current translator calculates the appropriate PWM current, based on the clock signal at the input pin and the status of the direction register or input pin.
PWM current control includes automatic selection of fast and slow decay modes.
The 7x7mm package is a NQFP-32 under 1mm high.
