Maxim has introduced the MAX3806 transimpedance amplifier (TIA) for laser-based distance-measurement in automotive cruise
control, industrial safety curtains, consumer rangefinders and construction rangefinders.
It can receive an input signal as low as 42nAp-p and amplify it to the range required by low-cost differential ADCs, claims the firm, while handling overload signals of up to 2mAp-p. Dynamic range extends to 40µAp-p.
A pin-selectable gain setting of 30kΩ or 60kΩ allows the chip to achieve typical bandwidths of 98MHz and 49MHz respectively.
To help suppress unwanted signals, an on-chip attenuator can reduce gain by 14dB.
The package is 12pin TQFN, a single 5V supply is required, and the chip is specified over -40 to +105C - AEC-Q100 Level 2 temperature range.
