Texas Instruments has introduced two embedded video camera and video communications development kits.
Both offer interactive HD video communications for improved image quality, and intelligent video encoding for up to a five times reduction in encoding bit rate - using the firm's TMS320DM368.
The embedded USB camera development kit (DM368EUCDK) is intended for video camera applications that already have a host processor for video decoding such as set-top boxes, digital signage and kiosks.
It integrates H.264 encoding at 1080p at 30frame/s.
The embedded communications development kit (DM368ECDK) is two-way video communications (encoding and decoding) at up to 720p at 30frame/s for video conferencing, web cameras, video blogging and interactive signage.
Features on the image signal processor include noise filtering, video stabilisation, face detection, auto white balance, auto exposure and edge enhancement.
There is also support for UVC/UAC (USB video class/audio class) drivers to meet USB video and audio compliancy standards for streaming.
Included is demo software and Linux source code, 1080p30 H.264 streaming plus secondary stream for preview.
