Vicor’s V•I Chip subsidiary has a PRM regulator in its half-chip package measuring 16.5x22.0x6.7mm.
The converter is specified to be 97% efficient at 200W with the same power density as a 400W full-size PRM.
The PRM48BH480T200A00 operates from 48Vdc (38 to 55V) to generate a regulated, adjustable 5 to 55V output.
The ZVS (zero-voltage-switching) buck-boost topology with a switching frequency of 1MHz means a power density over 1,300W / cubic in is achieved.
The device is designed to be used as a standalone, non-isolated voltage regulator. It can also be used with the supplier’s full-chip or half-chip VTM current multipliers for a DC-DC converter with isolation to 2,250Vdc.
There is an external control loop and current sensor which will allow for the design of voltage and current compensation loops for precise power delivery.
