AVX has added a 3,300µF tantalum to its 2mm high Pulsecap series. The 4V device has a 55m? ESR and 14.5x7.5mm footprint.
Pulsecaps are aimed at energy storage for RF transmitters, such as in PC Cards and USB devices, and back-up in solid-state drives.
In that same footprint come 2,200µF 6.3V and 1,500µF 10V capacitors, and there is a 1,500µF 6.3V one in a smaller (7.3x6.3mm) package.
In the pipeline for the first half of next year are versions using conductive polymer for one of the electrodes which will have reduced ignition failure mode and lower ESR.
Contributing to the 2mm device height are 'undertab' terminals which are flush with the package bottom and replace J-lead connections.
Operating temperature range is -55 to +125C
