STMicroelectronics has introduced new plug-and-play modules for prototyping STM8 and STM32 microcontroller designs

The EvoPrimer platform, which is the latest addition to the firm’s Primer and Primer2 kits, now incorporates a base unit with interchangeable microcontroller modules, or target boards.

The aim is to keep hardware costs down, said the supplier

Target boards are available now to support STM8L 8-bit microcontrollers, as well as the 32-bit STM32F families.

Additional target boards are soon to be introduced for the STM32L and the higher performance STM32 F-2 series which is a 90nm device.

The target boards connect to functions on the base unit, including an LCD touchscreen, a joystick, a MEMS accelerometer, a microphone, loudspeaker and jack, a Micro SD card connector, and a Li-ion battery with charge-management circuitry.

There is an extension connector for extra functions to be added, if needed.

EvoPrimer is also integrated with the CircleOS operating system.
