Power Integrations has a reference design based on its single-stage LinkSwitch-PH LED-driver IC family.
According to the supplier, the aim of the design is to eliminate the need for unreliable electrolytic capacitors and opto-isolators in high-reliability industrial, commercial, and exterior solid-state lighting applications.
Suitable for designs from 5W to 55W, solid-state lighting driver ballasts based on the ICs achieve greater than 90% energy efficiency and achieve greater than 0.9 power factor, said the company.
According to Doug Bailey, v-p of marketing for Power Integrations: "Our single-stage LinkSwitch-PH family eliminates the weak links in a typical LED driver. Using the LED driver ICs alongside highly stable ceramic capacitors, designers can produce efficient, safe, cost-effective lighting systems that outlast SSL installations using consumer-grade drivers and save on costly maintenance."
