Welcome to the technology startup page for Electronics Weekly.
Here you can find articles on technology startups in the UK, an interactive map showing the location and business sector of each startup and links to useful websites for the technology entrepreneur.
The UK has long been viewed as a country rich in innovation and technology development but poor in the skills that allow us to capitalise on that asset. However, the truth is that there is a strong field of startup firms in the UK in the electronics sector and the resources on this page will hopefully point out that in fact this community of businesses is thriving, growing and breaking technology barriers.
Startup map
There are 128 firms featured on the map. The first version of the map was created in 1999 and featured just 32 companies. The map had been redrawn periodically and the version created in 2000 had 49 firms, in 2002 61 and in 2003 there were 110 firms featured.
The latest version of the map was created specifically for the web and contains clickable information about firms and sectors that the startup firms fall into. Many firms have passed through the map and have been taken off it for a variety of reasons. A list of these firms – the startup map alumni - is also available to view.
Elsewhere on the Internet, a map from Cambridge Investment Research shows the area around Cambridge and the firms based there. It includes electronics and optronics firms as well as other technology sectors.
