Engineers at the University of California, San Diego are mimicking the movement of bird wings to help improve the manoeuvrability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Initial testing has validated the concept of using wing sweep for pitch control of the aircraft, say the University. Future research could combine twisting, flapping, and other wing morphing.
