I mentioned back in April, that Google was resurrecting the awards, with nominees for outstanding apps or games across 12 categories, such as Best VR and AR Experiences, Best TV Experience, Best App for Kids, and Best Game.
Well, the awards have now been awarded…
Best App was Memrise, which takes you on a voyage of learning a new language.
With 650,000+ installs, it rates 4.7 on Google Play, and only requires Android 4.1 and up. It follows the Freemium model – free to install, with in-app purchases rising as far up as £135.
You can learn: French, Spanish, Korean, Japanese, Italian, German, Portuguese, Russian, Danish, Swedish, Polish, Norwegian, Turkish and Arabic.
The Best Game was Transformers: Forged to Fight, pitting “Autobots” and “Decepticons” to multi-player battle for the Transformers universe.
Other winners included: IFTTT (Best accessibility experience), Share the Meal (Best social impact, from the United Nations), Runtastic Running (Best Android Wear app), Virtual Virtual Reality (Best VR experience), Animal Jam (Best app for kids) and Hearthstone (Best multiplayer Game)…

How did Google rank them?
Nominees were selected by a set of specific criteria, including high star rating, technical performance, requiring a launch or major update since April 2016.
