364 million PCs switched on
Richard Ball A report from the Computer Industry Almanac claims that 364 million PCs were in use at the end of last year. A third of these were in Europe and a third in the US. The number has risen from under 100 million in 1990. The organisation predicts that by the end of next year, PCs numbers will have increased to 500 million. This figure will double by 2005.
