Alliance profits from fab stake

Alliance Semiconductor has agreed to sell 18 per cent of its stake in the Taiwan based chip manufacturer United Semiconductor Corporation (USC) raising $32.8m.
The move follows a similar one made by graphics chip firm S3 in early January, which sold one third of its shares in USC for $72m. Following the sale, Alliance will own 15.5 per cent of USC. Alliance, S3 and United Microelectronics Corporation are the three founders of USC, which manufactures chips as a foundry for other companies.
