Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will today (Monday) introduce a mobile version of the K6-III microprocessor as it hopes to grab a toehold in the corporate market for notebook computers.
The K6-III P is offered at 350MHz, 366MHz and 380MHz. While AMD has managed to carve out a significant market share in the home and small business markets, it has failed to crack the corporate market.
AMD hopes that this latest chip will help it with design wins among companies that build notebook computers for corporate users. This could then be extended into winning customers for AMD based desktop PC systems within corporations. Industry observers note that there is still a lot of reluctance among PC buyers within large organisations to buy AMD based PCs.
