ARM gives lift to bus

ARM gives lift to busRichard Ball
ARM has introduced a set of peripherals and a new specification for its AMBA on-chip bus. The move is aimed at promoting system-on-a-chip design.
The PrimeCell peripherals are intellectual property cores and include a UART, SDRAM controller, serial interface, real time clock, audio codec, smartcard interface and colour LCD controller.
The cores are all synthesisable, allowing them to be used in any manufacturing process.
Connecting the cores to an ARM processor is the function of the AMBA bus. This is actually two busses, one for connecting the processor to memory and high speed peripherals, the other for general purpose peripherals.
