Belgians provide IP service
Richard Ball Belgian firm Frontier Design is to provide tools and services for the design and re-use of intellectual property and silicon designs. Spun out of Mentor Graphics last September, Frontier took control of Mentor’s DSP design products. These are being added to with tools for general IC design. The tools will be used by customers to integrate blocks and cores from Frontier and other third party sellers. The company also has a method for turning algorithms into silicon designs, especially useful in DSP applications. DSP versions of Frontier’s tools have already been used by Philips and Sony in the development of digital audio broadcast chips and mini-disc recorders. Frontier is also aiming its tools and cores at the telecoms market.
