Steve Bush A walking stick and a pill dispenser have won this year’s IEE Prize for Helping Disabled People. The stick, called the Lumi-Walker was designed by Nicholas Johnson (shown) from the Community College, Bishops Castle, Shropshire. The dispenser, which is named Recollect, is the brainchild of Paul Coulter from Ballyclare High School, Northern Ireland. Each winner got ?1,000, presented by Dr Alan Rudge, chairman of the Engineering Council. Lumi-Walker is rechargeable battery-powered and gives users all-round visibility at night. Recollect comprises a main household unit and electronic tablet boxes, which can be pre-programmed by a pharmacist.
