BT trials free phone call service
Alex Mayhew-Smith BT is to trial a service which will give customers free national and local calls in return for ten second adverts during the call. The service, called BT Freetime, will be trialled in Tyne and Wear and Bristol before being rolled out across the country. Those signing up to the service will be given a code number that users will dial to activate the service before making their call. “It will be up to the individual when they want to use the service,” said a BT spokesman. Once activated there will be a ten second advert at the start of the call, which only the person making the call will hear. After that there will be an advert every two minutes, which is audible to both callers. The service will also select what is deemed to be an appropriate advert for the listeners, based on a questionnaire filled in by the user about their interests. The service is aimed at teenagers and poorer households.
