C-Cube in codecs bid
Steve Bush C-Cube Microsystems has introduced two MPEG-2 encoder/ decoders for the consumer and professional video editing markets. These are claimed to be the first single chip devices to deliver multiple stream decoding and real time special effects on PC hosts. Tape-to-tape editing, known as linear editing, is being superseded by digital (known as non-linear) editing. This requires video data to be compressed from tape to a computer hard disc. Here it can be manipulated and then stored back onto tape. Simpler JPEG compression has had to be used, claims C-Cube, because chips have not been available.
