CBI adds to DTI lobby
Roy Rubenstein The Confederation of British Industry has added to pressure on the government to cut back on red tape, amid signs that the government was responding to the concerns of companies. It published a survey of 830 companies employing 2.4 million people showing that 25 per cent were concerned at the burden of new regulations ranging from the European Working Time Directive to the minimum wage and trade union recognition. Trade and Industry Secretary Stephen Byers is considering setting up a standing commision to monitor the effect of the new laws and ensure that they do nor cripple small businesses.
