Customer consortium acquires dpiX

A consortium of customers has agreed to acquire 80 per cent of the Xerox flat panel display dpiX company, rescuing the venture from closure.
The purchasing consortium includes French based Trixell, a joint venture of Philips Medical Systems, Siemens Medical Engineering, and Thompson-CSF; Planar Systems, and Varian Medical Systems. Theses companies said they agreed to purchase dpiX, for an undisclosed sum, in order to secure supplies of dpiX screens and share development costs on new products.
Spun off from the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center in 1996, dpiX has developed high resolution thin-film transistor array based flat panel displays. DpiX had high hopes of helping to boost the fledgling US flat panel display industry with its very high resolution screens but was unable to attract sufficient numbers of customers.
