Delay hits Rambus
David Manners Samsung is disappointed at the delay in implementing Rambus because it believes it has a leading position and others will now catch up. “Rambus is out of the fourth quarter equation,” said Ken Jones, vice president of sales at Samsung Semiconductor, adding “the first manifestations of Rambus won’t give any performance advantage over PC133.” Samsung, which accepted $100m from Intel to continue making Rambus, believes that the low-end Q4 PC market will be PC100, the medium to high range will use PC133 synchronous DRAM, and the high end and workstation market will use double data rate DRAM (DDR).
