Dell Pentium II shift

Dell Pentium II shift

Dell will stop selling Pentium based PCs by the end of this month as it follows Intel’s roadmap and moves its entire PC line to the Pentium II.
The move also means that Intel competitors such as National Semiconductor and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) will find it increasingly difficult to obtain design wins among PC manufacturers that follow Dell’s lead. This is because the Pentium II requires motherboards that support Slot 1 rather than the older Socket 7.
Dell says that market research shows that by the fourth quarter of this year, 73 percent off desktop and notebook computers will be based on the Pentium II.
