Computer security experts warn that a destructive virus is set to strike infected PC systems on April 26, and will be far more damaging than the recent Melissa virus outbreak.
A variant of the CIH virus will be triggered on infected PC systems on Monday and it is designed to destroy data on hard drives and damage the PC system’s BIOS making it unbootable. The virus is also known as the Chernobyl virus because it is triggered on the anniversary of the Russian nuclear accident.
CIH can be prevented by anti-virus software and computer security experts recommend that PC users make sure they have updated their anti-virus software to deal with CIH. The recent Melissa virus outbreak affected hundreds of thousands of PCs but it did not destroy data.
