The growing market for digital television will bring 120 new jobs to Grundig’s set-top box factory in Llantrisant, south Wales over the next year.
Koen van Driel, chairman of Grundig, said Llantrisant would be the company’s base for the manufacture of digital TV products. “Both the exceptional flexibility of the workforce and the help of the WDA [Welsh Development Agency] have been instrumental in our success,” he said.
The extra jobs are part of ?1m plans to increase the factory by 50 per cent to 72,000ft2, and to increase the number of surface mount assembly lines. The extension to the factory is being supported by the WDA and the Cardiff Business School’s lean enterprise research centre.
