Doug Dunn takes step onto ASM Litho board
David Manners Doug Dunn has been appointed to the board of ASM Lithography (ASML) as from April 1 and will take over as chairman and chief executive officer of the company at the year end. ASM Lithography is one of the world’s leading three manufacturers of stepper machines for fabricating the circuitry on chips. It started off as an in-house activity of Philips, but has since been floated on the stock exchange. Formerly chairman and chief executive officer of the consumer electronics division of Philips Electronics, Dunn takes over from Willem Maris, the current chairman and CEO of ASML, on January 1, 2000, when Maris will be 60. Before taking over as head of Philips’ consumer operations, Dunn was chairman of Philips Semiconductors, and managing director, successively, of GEC-Plessey Semiconductors, of Plessey Semiconductors where he was the first to take out a commercial licence of the ARM core, and of Motorola’s wafer fab at East Kilbride in Scotland. Last month Dunn was appointed to the board of processor developer ARM. He left Philips last December.
