AFDEC, the component distributor association, has signed up to be a contributor partner in RosettaNet, a bid by mainly US-based distributors to create a global e-commerce standard for the industry.
AFDEC has committed to work with other industry association partners in the consortium which is bidding to set up an international framework supporting the greater use of e-commerce in the electronics supply chain. AFDEC will ensure greater UK involvement in the initiative.
“Our key task will be to disseminate information on the progress of RosettaNet to our members and collate their comments,” AFDEC chairman Gary Kibblewhite told Electronics Weekly in Las Vegas.
Arrow, Avnet, Future Electronics, Marshall Industries, Premier Farnell and Veba Electronics have already thrown their weight behind the e-commerce programme.
The next step will be to encourage component suppliers to get involved in the initiative. The list of backers already includes IBM, Siemens, Intel and NEC.
