European IC design
David Manners The Europractice IC Design service has completed over 100 designs in its second phase. This latest stage in Europractice’s evolution combines the original IC design service with that of software design. Of the 108 microsystem designs completed in phase 2, 36 have been for customers which had no previous experience of microsystems design. The service is run by the International Microelectronics Centre (IMEC) at the University of Leuven, Belgium. In the first phase 1,000 chip designs were completed. Europractice reduces the cost of custom chip manufacturing to inexpensive levels by using one wafer for several designs. It has completed 170 such ‘multi-projects’ in CMOS, BiCMOS and GaAs.
