US chip market research firm Infrastructure, says that any delays in building and equipping modern fabs can cost companies more than $3m per day.
In a report on fab site selection Carl Johnson, Infrastructure president writes that, “Construction delays and business interruptions are extremely expensive for today’s capital intensive wafer fab. The financial implications associated with these risks can easily impact a semiconductor company by $1 million per day in expenses and $2 million per day in foregone revenues.”
