Flextronics’ manufacturing facility in Tonypandy, Wales is the subject of a business review regarding its future.
“We have entered into consultation with employees based on Flextronics’ inability to attract and maintain business at the Welsh site,” said Matt Ryan, general manager of the Tonypandy factory. He commented that the state of the industry was hard in Wales and that this was an opportunity to review the situation at the site which employs 200 people. The 90 day consultation period follows three years of trading since Flextronics bought the site.
Flextronics has recently acquired Altatron, a US-based electronics manufacturing services provider that has a site in Hamilton, Scotland. However, it is thought unlikely that any of the Welsh business will be transferred there.
