Government drive for info age
By Our Political Correspondent Prime Minister Tony Blair has branded his drive to harness electronics, computers and communications technology for the new Millennium “an ambitious programme of how the government can help meet the challenges of the information age”. He also revealed that he is to be interviewed on the Internet by Sir David Frost on April 29. Among the government initiatives Blair detailed include ?100 million from the Windfall Tax to link schools to the national grid for learning; ?50m of Lottery money to put libraries on lines and ?150m to connect GPs and hospitals to the NHS net.
