Melanie Reynolds A project involving industry, Government departments and academia has been set up to ensure that the UK remains at the forefront of transport telematics. The three year, ?800,000 project involves the Bolton Institute, GEC Marconi, Cirrus Technology, IBM, Rover and the Universities of Warwick, Coventry and Loughborough. According to Dr Christopher Nwagboso, head of the vehicle systems research group at Bolton’s faculty of technology, the project will include the development of a truck prototype with on-board navigation and collision avoidance systems. A design methodology will also be created, enabling the generation of intelligent systems incorporating user requirements.
