US Graphics firm Evans & Sutherland has agreed to acquire graphics accelerator board firm AccelGraphics in a deal valued at $52m.
Evans said that it would use AccelGraphics expertise and technology to develop new products for the Windows NT graphics workstation market.
“High performance PC workstations using Intel architecture and the Windows NT operating system make up one of the fastest growing segments of the computer industry today,” said James Oyler, president and CEO of Evans & Sutherland. “We have been supplying chip technology to this segment through our partnership with Mitsubishi, and we will continue to do so. With the acquisition of AccelGraphics, we will now be able to supply board level products as well.”
