In a further move to become profitable, Korean firm Hyundai Electronics Industries has sold its photomask facility to US based DuPont Photomask (DPI) in a deal that calls for DuPont to supply it with photomasks.
The two companies will also collaborate on the development of advanced photomask technology for deep submicron chips, which will reduce research and development costs for both companies. Hyundai has developed leading edge photomask technology for the manufacture of 64Mbit and 256Mbit DRAM chips.
Hyundai said that the deal with DPI would enable it to focus on the development of advanced chips. Financial details were not disclosed. Last month, Hyundai sold its Symbios chip unit to US firm Adaptec.
