Richard Wilson A computer ID chip introduced by Atmel makes use of a programmable RF device developed in collaboration with IBM and HID. When a computer containing the chip is within range of a portable or fixed reader, the device generates a signal. This signal reports system information as well as other identification and security data that has been stored in the device. The AT24RF08 device contains 8,192 bits of EEPROM memory and both a wireless and a two-wire serial interface that is compatible with standard serial EEPROM memories.
