Svetlana Josifovska The IEEE-1394 standard, the digital interface also known as FireWire – a name given to it by Apple – is to be renamed as i.LINK by Philips, Sony and Canal+. Other consumer electronics companies including Hitachi, JVC and Matsushita will follow. “IEEE-1394 is not a very consumer name and we didn’t like the name FireWire because of the danger factor it may convey to the consumers,” said Theo Vlek from Philips.
