Infineon shows first working Carmel
Richard Ball Infineon Technologies has demonstrated first working silicon of Carmel, its 16-bit DSP core aimed at ADSL and third generation mobile chipsets. “We demonstrated speech vocoders including an enhanced full rate speech vocoder for mobile phones,” said Uwe Binneneruck, Infineon’s marketing director for DSPs. “The DSP market is changing again with these multiple MAC architectures,” said Binneneruck. “But Carmel is the only existing architecture which is licensable in this performance class.”
