Intel agrees to out-of-court settlement in anti-trust trial
Richard Wilson Intel has reached an out-of-court settlement with the US government, thereby avoiding a potentially damaging courtroom battle. The anti-trust trial was due to start yesterday (Tuesday). An agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) was announced on Monday. “We’ve reached an agreement with the FTC’s Bureau of Competition, but it’s subject to approval by the FTC itself,” an Intel spokesperson confirmed. The company refused to reveal the terms of the deal. The FTC case against Intel centred on allegations of withholding technical information from computer firms and exercising a monopoly in the processor market.
