Intel port for BeOS

California company Be, has released its first commercial version of the BeOS operating system for Intel compatible hardware platforms, hoping to take advantage of growing numbers of video and audio content developers.
The BeOS is a multi-threaded operating system, and was formerly only available on PowerPC systems. It is designed to quickly process multiple tasks offering high-end performance in video and audio editing applications.
The $100 operating system is not designed to compete with Microsoft Windows, but to offer an alternative OS for multimedia applications.
“Intel has helped us port the BeOS to the Intel architecture and they are very keen on seeing us succeed. If people buy more powerful PCs because they want to run Be applications, Intel will benefit,” said Alex Osadzinski, vice president of sales and marketing at Be.
