Emerging skills shortages, particularly in high technology industries like electronics, is threatening the stability and growth of the Irish economy, according to a new official figures.
Ireland’s National Competitiveness Council has warned in its first annual report that local Irish-owned companies were not matching the growth performance of the many multinational firms, such as big name firms in the PC and electronics sectors. While the report was convinced of Ireland’s general industrial competitiveness it warned skills shortages and a lack of spending on telecommunications and infrastructure could threaten the economies business strength in the future.
Still, this year the economy is expected to grow by an impressive eight per cent.
